Turkey/Bulgaria 2023

In September of 2023, a group of us traveled to Turkey and then Bulgaria on pilgrimage.
Bruce, Ellie, Kimberlee, ET and Paul first hiked the Lycian Way for 7 days.
Then, Laura joined us and we all hiked the Carian Trail.
Paul and ET flew back home, the rest traveled to Bulgaria for a Spa Adventure.

Turkey's Lycian Way

This self-guided Turkish adventure, walking East Lycian Way over eight days, is an epic journey, climbing higher than the western section and further inland but also includes Mount Olympos and its nearby ruins. It gets off to a spectacular high from the start, with a trek through Göynük Gorge on day one. Stay at coastal gems such as Çıralı and Adrasan, or trek up to the heights such as Musa Dağı Pass (650m), with views that will definitely make you want to hit the western section next. Stay in a mix of traditional hotels and guesthouses, with luggage transfers and most meals included.

Turkey's Carian Trail

In the south-west of Turkey, along the Aegean coast, the Carian Trail leads through a fascinating coastal landscape, divided into countless smaller and larger peninsulas, bays and islands. Walk in dense, green forests and admire the glowing white rocks rising above the sea. On the Carian Trail, you will experience a constant interplay of land and sea, thousand-metre-high cliffs and secluded bays inviting you for a swim.
The trail is named after the Carian civilisation and the region is rich in ancient ruins and history.
