Switzerland Miracles 2024
- Flight on time to Chicago and able to make connections - even time for soup!
- All arrived without mishap and so did all of our luggage
- Easy restaurant across from the hotel in pouring rain for dinner - got the special wine cellar room which was quiet and tucked away.
- Tuesday no rain for exploring Zurich. At the Fraumunster convent we received great stories about the paintings which told the early story of Zurich and the founding of the convent from a man who seemed to just be hanging out.
- First day on the trail was cloudy and cool - perfect for hiking. Trail was well groomed and easy to follow. Place of bathroom break and hot drinks for lunch.
- The hotel had a GF restaurant. Hot springs - even though cool. Bruce was able to get his bathing suit back early the next day.
- Second day walking was cold but had snow instead of the predicted rain making hiking much easier. Found a restaurant the the perfect time for lunch. Found a quiet road/path which cut some time and was a beautiful entrance for 2 ½ miles to Spluga. There had been lots of slippery rocks and no one fell!
- Rest day in Spluga was the day the cows came home! Had a great “hang out space” at the hotel.
- Third day hiking was chilly and windy but none of the predicted rain. We were able to take a bus cutting out several uphill miles before the pass. Made it over the pass, Paul caught Kimberlee and provided many important hands to Ellie in scary places. All made it up and over pass and down the gorge in one piece. Able to eat dinner at the hotel.
- Fourth day of hiking was all downhill. ET had a painful leg issue and decided to take a bus, found out he had no money or credit card and found a woman willing to buy him a ticket! No rain.
- Transfer day in Chiavenna. After much searching for a taxi through Uber, etc. the hotel manager found us a driver in Mercedes Benz van at the cheapest price! Rainy day but it didn't matter since in car.
